8 months

This month has brought in a wave of changes with our little guy. the biggest change is his mobility. Danny crawls at lightening speed. across the kitchen, up the stairs, through our room, he’s a machine. we have to hover over him at all times or we run the risk of a hand in the cat food (and all the pellets on the floor, that was fun to clean), a solo trip up the stairs (thank god he only made it 2 steps), a finger in an outlet (well, we are 1 for 3, he’s yet to do this). He’s also taken kindly to cruising along anything he’s pulled up on. He especially loves the coffee table that’s covered in all kinds of antidanny materials. When will we learn to stash away all our belongings until danny moves out? But wait! there’s more. Did you watch the previous post? danny is now intrigued in walking with the walker thing. he helps himself to it, now that he knows what it is, and can clear a room in a blink. we seriously need to invest in a couple baby gates, outlet plugs and an organizational specialist.

along with the movement business the buds has started to do one of our favorite things in the world. it’s so damn cute. if he’s just sitting there happy, sad, whatever and you go to pick him up, he’ll raise his arms to you. my heart just melts typing this. it’s seriously puppies licking kittens cute.

he’s also doing a little something else with his arms – the beginnings of tantrums. when he’s upset he’ll throw his arms down. and up. then forcefully down. it’s evident he’s a little angerball at that point.

we’ve moved on from purees to texturize and bite sized foods. with the bite sized we have to go at it a little slow so danny gets used to the chunks and thus far it’s been a ravishing success – even with the lima beans. we’ve also introduced formula. i just can not keep up with danny’s appetite so the supplementation has gone into effect. buds doesnt seem to mind one bit and i really believe a giant bottle is helping him sleep better at night.

wait. here’s another cute thing, this might be cuter that puppies licking kittens, this is a kitten hanging from a tree limb cute. we have 3 kitties who have been champs at tolerating their new attacker. danny just loves them up and down. he sees them and gets a huge nerdy grin on his face. we started to ask danny ‘where’s the kitty?’. he stops almost instantly and looks around for them. if he scouts one out, he locks on like a heat seeking missile and out comes nerd smile. but wait! out of his mouth he blurts a kuh sound. grin. kuh. kuh. grin. bob is sure he’s just mimicking us. sometimes i want to believe he is putting 2 and 2 together. who really knows. danny will also do this at the shop with nana and grampa’s doggy. speaking of doggies, i’ve notice a couple encounters where danny is not a fan of the pooches. once with a big o’l dopey golden lab and then with a tiny purse dog (that freak out was hilarious btw. danny’s bigger that the pooch). I can’t tell if he’s really scared or intimidated. I need to watch his reactions a little more carefully as he grows.

then there is the initial understanding of the word NO (unless he’s in the bath tub because apparently all bets are off in the bath tub. danny’s rules, not mine. i’m working on that though). if he’s doing something he shouldnt be doing, say attempting to crawl through the cat door (we really are great parents and do watch his every move. i sware) we sternly say ‘danny, no’. and that boy turns around and sits down on his dupa and moves on to something else. at that point we praise him and smooch him and just love him to pieces. this certainly has not been perfected, c’mon, he’s 8 months old, it’s a very good start though. maybe in 16 years he’ll be just as good at listening to us (hold on, i need to laugh for a moment…….ok).

hopefully with month 9 we’ll get sleeping figured out (laughing again…..ok). hopefully we’ll get to swim more, the weather will cool off a bit so we can go swing in the backyard, and maybe even another chomper.

happy months 8 buds!
